Seoul’s Leading MICE Venues – A Practical Comparison for International Planners

Seoul has established itself as one of Asia’s most reliable MICE destinations, consistently ranking near the top globally for international meetings. For planners bringing groups from overseas, the city’s main venues offer strong technical standards, good connectivity, and the ability to host everything from high-level conferences to large exhibitions. Choosing the right space depends on your event size, technical needs, and how important central Seoul access is for your delegates.

COEX in Gangnam remains the most frequently used venue for international conferences. It sits in the heart of the business district and is directly connected to subway lines and the Starfield COEX Mall. The complex includes multiple exhibition halls (Hall A and Hall C each offer roughly 10,300–10,400 m² and can hold around 520 booths) plus flexible meeting rooms. Hall D can accommodate up to approximately 7,000 people for large plenaries or events, while the Auditorium seats about 1,080 in theater style. There are roughly 55–57 meeting rooms that can be divided as needed, making COEX well-suited for conferences that combine a main session with breakout meetings. The surrounding hotels and dining options reduce logistics complexity for multi-day events.

KINTEX, located in Goyang (about 23 km northwest of central Seoul), is Korea’s largest exhibition complex with approximately 108,000 m² of indoor exhibition space across two centers. It is the practical choice for major trade shows and heavy-load industrial events. Access has improved significantly with the GTX-A line, which can reach KINTEX Station from Seoul Station in around 17–27 minutes. While it is outside central Seoul, airport buses and taxis make group transfers manageable, and nearby hotels support larger overnight groups. Planners often use KINTEX when exhibition floor space is the primary requirement rather than walking-distance hotel density.

Smaller but useful options include the aT Center in Seocho (focused on trade and agriculture-related events, with exhibition space around 4,000+ m² and meeting rooms that can seat several hundred) and SETEC in Gangnam, which specializes in SME-oriented exhibitions and mid-sized conferences. These work well for focused industry gatherings that do not require the scale of COEX or KINTEX.

The comparison below summarizes key practical differences for planners.

Venue Location & Access Approx. Exhibition Space Max Capacity (Key Space) Best Suited For Notes for Planners
COEX Gangnam, subway + mall connected \~36,000–38,000 m² \~7,000 (Hall D) International conferences, hybrid events Strongest hotel & dining density
KINTEX Goyang, GTX-A \~20 min from Seoul Station \~108,000 m² Large exhibition halls Major trade shows, heavy exhibits Best pure exhibition scale; plan transfers
aT Center Seocho/Yangjae area \~4,000+ m² Several hundred Trade, agriculture, mid-size meetings Convenient for smaller professional events
SETEC Gangnam (Hangnyeoul Station area) \~11,000 m² total building Mid-size SME exhibitions, specialized shows Good for targeted industry events

When selecting a venue, confirm current capacities and technical specifications directly with the facility, as layouts can be configured differently. Early site visits or virtual walkthroughs help match room flow to your program. Seoul’s MICE infrastructure continues to expand, with additional capacity planned in coming years, so the city can support both flagship events and more specialized gatherings with relatively little friction for international groups.
